The Bombay cat was developed by Nikki Horner, a breeder from Louisville, Kentucky. Horner wanted to create a cat that resembled a miniature black panther. She crossed a black American Shorthair with a Burmese and then backcrossed the resulting kittens to the American Shorthair. The first Bombay cats were born in 1958.

Appearance

The Bombay cat is a medium-sized cat with a short, glossy black coat. The coat is close-lying and has a satiny sheen. The Bombay's eyes are large and copper-colored. The nose and paw pads are black.
