The Steelheads were an instant success, both on and off the ice. They won the Western Hockey League championship in their inaugural season, and they quickly became one of the most popular teams in the league. Off the ice, the Steelheads were known for their innovative marketing and promotions. They were the first team to have a mascot, and they were the first to host a "Teddy Bear Toss" night.

The Steelheads played at the Seattle Center Coliseum for 13 seasons before moving to KeyArena in 1995. They played there for another 10 seasons before folding in 2005. But even though the Steelheads are no longer around, their legacy lives on.
