Perfect Youth: The Birth of Canadian Punk
In the early 1970s, a group of teenagers in Vancouver, British Columbia, were bored with the music scene. They wanted something new, something exciting, something that would reflect their own lives. So they started playing punk rock.
At first, they were just a bunch of kids making noise in their parents' basements. But soon, they started to attract a following. People were drawn to their raw energy and their honest lyrics. And before long, the Vancouver punk scene was born.

One of the most important bands in the early Vancouver punk scene was Teenage Head. Formed in 1975, Teenage Head was known for their loud, fast, and aggressive sound. They quickly became one of the most popular punk bands in Canada, and their songs are still played on radio stations today.
Another important band in the Vancouver punk scene was The Subhumans. Formed in 1978, The Subhumans were known for their political lyrics and their DIY ethic. They were one of the first punk bands to sing about issues such as nuclear war, poverty, and social injustice. And they were one of the first punk bands to tour outside of Canada, spreading the word about the Vancouver punk scene to the rest of the world.
The Vancouver punk scene was not without its problems. There were fights, there were drugs, and there was violence. But there was also a sense of community and a sense of hope. The punk scene gave these kids a place to belong, and it gave them a voice. And it helped to change the face of music forever.
Perfect Youth: The Birth of Canadian Punk tells the story of this important and influential music scene. It is a story of rebellion, of creativity, and of hope.
